Letter from your NEW Editor-in-Chief
Scott Borrelli
March 2002
Dear EMDR Europe Colleagues,
I am honoured to have been asked to take over the position of Editor-in-Chief
of The Practitioner EMDR Europes official journal. David Blore, the
founder of this now important journal, will remain an important advisor as we
continue to move the journal to new heights, and as EMDR spreads its impact
in the worlds of psychotherapy and counselling. Kofi Krafona also continues as
Deputy Editor, contributing reviews of books and other resources, and others providing
welcomed support to me as I dive into some unknown territory. We maintain
our admirable set of referees eager to review professional articles of all sorts.
Of course, communications with the Editor, replies to authors, book reviews, and
news items will not be subject to a peer review process!
Allow me to (re-) introduce our Referees:

I have just returned from the invigorating annual conference of the UK/Ireland
EMDR Association, where about sixty participants gathered to hear the presentation
of New Englander Elizabeth Adams, MSW, LCSW on the valuable topic of simultaneous
stimulation, to participate in focused small group supervision on a number of
clinical topics, and to celebrate the inauguration of our new president, Amit
Bhattacharya, during the AGM. I took this opportunity to promote the journal,
request article submissions, and invite suggestions and recommendations for making
this journal an even more vital and practical resource. Throughout the conference,
a number of ways the journal can provide more information and updates, resources,
articles, activities calendars of upcoming events, specialty therapist lists,
relevant web links, and professional support were raised. The Practitioner
might also eventually offer continuing professional development and supervision
opportunities via online services, as we continuously review and update our professional
knowledge and standards.
I was privileged to be able to give a talk at the Ft.Lauderdale, Florida monthly
EMDR consultation group, during which time we discussed the concepts of post-traumatic
growth (see the February edition of the British Association of Counselling and
Psychotherapy journal for a fine introduction on PTG). Thanks to Brenda Starr,
Licensed Social Worker, who is providing this forum in Florida to support local
clinicians.
The March, 2002 edition of The Psychologist (British Psychological Society)
includes an article co-written by Francine Shapiro on EMDR. It's a great update.
Let me emphasize (and celebrate!) that our journal serves all of Europe, and I
am hoping to generate further contributions from the many countries represented.
Each cultural perspective on the issues challenging the uses of EMDR adds to both
knowledge and our sense of a multi-cultural collegiality. We have much to learn
from each other's professional journeys. I would ask that you contact me via email
(DrBorrelli@dial.pipex.com) and telephone (020. 7224. 4402) if you have comments,
questions, or ideas for providing the best journal for you.
In the meantime, lets get ready for the annual European conference to be
held in Frankfurt, Germany on 30 May to 1 June, 2002, and email me with further
announcements youd like published. I am looking for a volunteer to cover
the annual conference and submit a summary/review of highlights for The Practitioner.
Take advantage of our sister sites, the EMDR International Association at: www.emdria.org
(USA), and the EMDR European Association at: www.emdr-europe, for a wide range
of resources.
The Borrelli Column continues with the March, 2002 contribution entitled:
As If 'Then' Were 'Now': Revamping the Time Line Using EMDR.
Additionally, you will find a review of David Grand's new book, Emotional Healing
at Warp Speed.
And very soon, a review Heather Pearson's Neurolateral software program will appear.
Best wishes,
and Good Practice,
Scott Borrelli, Chartered Clinical and Counselling Psychologist
