Spring/Summer 2005

FROM THE EDITOR

Dear EMDR Europe Colleagues,

I hope that your transition into Spring has been a smooth and happy one!

We are busily preparing the Spring/Summer edition of The EMDR Practitioner, so please submit your contributions as soon as possible (by 20 May). If you have any questions about the publication submission process, please contact me. I am more than happy to help with editing – just ask!

Although English is the adopted language of this journal, I would strongly encourage practitioners from all corners of the world to contribute articles, case reviews, theoretical discussions, books and resources reviews in your native language, so that we can start up this new section of The EMDR Practitioner. Also, you will notice that most of the national organizations are represented by a flag on the front page. Please review these and if there is anyone missing, we will soon add you!

Many of you are planning to attend the ANNUAL CONFERENCE this year in Brussels, which will include the keynote speech by the founder of EMDR, Dr Francine Shapiro. We are very excited about this opportunity to celebrate Europe’s enthusiasm for EMDR and to share its many applications. Again, the conference dates are 10-12 June at the University of Brussels – you can link to the conference information from The Practitioner. We welcome Francine with enthusiasm and open arms!

Dr. Marilyn Luber , an editor of the quarterly EMDRIA newsletter, will be providing the EMDR-Practitioner  with her popular  IN THE SPOTLIGHT articles. The first segment highlights the works of three exceptional EMDR practitioners: clinical psychologist Philip Dutton from the UK, clinical psychologist Ludwig Cornell from Brussels, and clinical psychologist Frankie Klaff, originally from South Africa, and now in America. We are very grateful to Marilyn, and to Gayla Turner, Associate Director of EMDRIA, for their generosity. This is yet one more opportunity for EMDR practitioners across the globe to get to know each other, and to share their exceptional work.

There has been some discussion among EMDR-Europe accredited consultants on providing online continuing education through The EMDR Practitioner. Please contact me with your ideas for this project. There are many examples of this type of resource on the Internet, and if you are willing to develop short presentations and courses, and oversee them, then we might get this off the ground this year! Please send in your proposals. The EMDR-Practitioner is considering taking responsibility for banking your hours/credits for such courses, as continuing professional education is essential to maintain “good practice”.

Very Good Spring/Summer wishes to all of you!
